Highwire Poetry is no synth-pop pastiche turning up late to the 80s revival party: dustup and industrial are also touchstones, while Karin Park owes a clear debt to the creepy soundscapes of the other fantastic Karin (Dreijer Andersson, voice and former member of The Knife and Fever Ray projects), with whom she shares a producer, Christoffer Berg. That’s why, when she calls her sound “electro goth”, it’s difficult to object, even if we must say that she doesn’t wear her influences lightly, but she’s dynamic enough to fashion her own distinct style, with her fantastic voice, flexible enough to recall both Shirley Manson and Björk.
