Which are the albums, amongst the ones featured on radioSpin, that maybe won’t be forgotten in a couple of months? We got some ideas about it, but we won’t disclose them before Christmas. In the meantime we would be very happy to hear what you think about it. So, shake your asses and drop a comment below or share you opinion on RS Facebook discussion. Help us summing up this year!

LCD SOUNDSYSTEM
Shut Up and Play the Hits

under best of, bonus, electronic, indie, live, preview, recommended, video

More an affectionate eulogy and high-emotion, celebratory wake than a music documentary, this video portrait of the last ever live show by LCD Soundsystem follows singer-songwriter James Murphy as he experiences the dying days of his much-loved band. As previously announced on RS Hot Spots, in April 2011, the electro legends sold out New York’s Madison Square Garden to play what they promise will be their final live show. The four-hour set, featuring Arcade Fire stars as on-stage guests, was a once-in-a-lifetime carnival of punk rock-infused dance and electronica in front of 18,000 fans. Directors Will Lovelace and Dylan Southern imbued the charmingly-shot film with realism and intimacy.
This is the full audio report.

DJ Shadow, is rightly regarded as one of the most influential and consistently innovative artists to emerge from music in the last 20 years. 20 years that fill with fuel this Reconstructed: The Best of DJ Shadow which ranges from the early pre-Mo Wax days right up to the present and his most recent album, The Less You Know, The Better. Perhaps most exciting to Shadow fans is the inclusion of two brand new tracks, including the pop masterpiece Listen, featuring legendary vocalist Terry Reid.

Please, Please, Please is not the nth collection to glorify The Smiths. 20 covers and not a dud in the bunch: that’s a rare thing, especially with a tribute compilation. If you’re a Smiths fan, this is a great way to keep the music alive. If you are not a Smiths fan, well, you’re still in time to change your mind.

Although Nirvana has been over for fifteen years, their popularity is about to get another jolt. Spin Magazine has released Newermind, a free covers album to Nirvana’s breakthrough album, Nevermind, released in September of 1991, already 20 years ago. The album features performances by Charles Bradley, Telekinesis, JEFF the Brotherhood, Titus Andronicus, Foxy Shazam, Surfer Blood, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Midnight Juggernauts and also Meat Puppets and the The Vaselines: a real short circuit this one, being Nirvana the first band to cover them. Don’t be afraid of your tears.

LADYTRON
Best Of 00-10

as heard on radiospin on March 2nd, 2011
under best of, electronic, indie, preview, recommended, remix

The narrative of the past decade of electronic music would not be complete without a chapter on Ladytron: consistently placing songcraft and innovation over any confining aesthetic, the foursome of Daniel Hunt, Reuben Wu, Helen Marnie and Mira Aroyo fashioned four albums of deliriously buzzing, whip-smart electro-pop that have kept them ahead of the curve, apart from the fads and in a league of their own. Those albums, surveyed on the career-spanning Best of Ladytron: 00-10, reflect the quartet s deftly executed (and delightfully subversive) dualities: primordial grooves vs. lushly layered synths, sanguine melodies vs. shimmering atmospherics, and art-house detachment vs. the poignant narratives delivered by dueling sirens Marnie and Aroyo. Ladytron has created a body of work that reveals a fresh creative arc and, as time has told, served as a reference point for a current crop of artists such as Lady Gaga, Goldfrapp, La Roux and Crystal Castles.

Two CD collection from the britpop band led by vocalist Brett Anderson and featuring guitarist Bernard Butler, now a renowned producer. Features all of Suede‘s biggest hits showcasing the group’s early material with outstanding new production. This is the only Suede hits compilation that has been endorsed by the band. During the band’s early years, they effectively instigated a new focus on British guitar music which had been largely eclipsed by grunge before their emergence: their inexorable rise saw them become one of the biggest groups in the country, a success which was replicated in many countries around the world. In 1999, after five studio albums, the group split. They returned triumphantly in March this year, playing three incredible and critically acclaimed shows including London’s Royal Albert Hall in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Mew - Eggs Are Funny

Mew‘s dreamy prog rock sound is far too strange to ever result in a massive smash hit, but the group have nonetheless managed to crack the charts a few times in Scandinavia and the UK. Now, the Danish outfit are getting set to compile some of their best tracks onto a new compilation, Eggs Are Funny, due out this fall. The title comes from an early song, one of the first the band ever wrote. In addition to compiling 14 old favourites, it contains one new track, Do You Love It?.
