Brand, highly-awaited, new single for Depeche Mode, first extract from the upcoming Delta Machine. Heaven projects an intimately dark atmosphere with a fuzzily infectious bass lead and solemn piano echoes. Dave Gahan’s voice sounds as good as ever, especially with his uptick in emotion during the second verse and its grimy longing. The bass-guitar interplay during the aerial chorus is also excellent. Exclusively for RS readers, this maxi-bonus edition features the b-side All That’s Mine and four stunning remixes by Matthew Dear, Blawan, Owlle, and Steps to Heaven.

Mr. Oizo, the original French-touch provocateur, went ahead and brought his own seamy ‘n steamy free collection to the table. Titled Unreleased Unfinished Unpleasant, the b-sides tracklist delivers exactly what’s labeled on the tin, at last loosing a dozen costive holdovers from the past nine years of his career. Well, no so exactly: the truth is that most of it’s actually perfectly listenable and enjoyable.

COM TRUISE
In Decay

It seems a bit early in the game for a Com Truise rarities and B-sides collection (Seth Haley has but one album under his belt with this punny moniker), but here we are. You know what we’re speaking about: mid-fi, synth wave and slow-motion funk. Haley is a devout champion of hardware synthesizers, outboard gear and vinyl records as showcased to glorious effect on his 2011 debut album Galactic Melt. In Decay will offer a rare glimpse of the experimental and formative ideas that came before, some of which even predating his first release.
