Pacing himself with the steady release of teasers, tracklistings, and an official single, M83‘s Anthony Gonzalez has unveiled the cover art to his upcoming double album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming. Featuring a little boy behind the now familiar goblin get-up, you could say it exudes the same kind of childhood vulnerability and fear found in Spike Jonze‘s take on Where the Wild Things Are. For his follow-up to 2008′s ’80s-heavy Saturdays=Youth, M83 moved chronologically in terms of influences. According to a press release, this new album is heavily influenced by Smashing Pumpkins‘ 1995 double album, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. As a teenager, Gonzalez said he dug into the album, which he likened to a treasurer. And if he was a teenager now, he said he would like to find a record just as creative (his words) as Mellon Collie. He also called Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming (M83‘s seventh album) “epic” and a blend of his previous works. It features guest appearances from Zola Jesus, Medicine‘s Brad Laner, and Morgan Kibby, who appeared also on Saturdays=Youth.
