Gogol Bordello - Trans-Continental Hustle

2010 release, the eagerly-awaited fifth studio album from the gypsy-punk outfit and the first to be release since 2007′s Super Taranta!. Produced by Grammy award-winning producer Rick Rubin, Trans-Continental Hustle combines the band’s radical invocations of positive primal energy and planetary consciousness with music infused with ska, metal, punk, rap, dub and intimations of indigenous Brazilian sounds to produce a party maelstrom of electrifying proportions. Led by revolutionary change agent and provocateur Eugene Hutz, Gogol Bordello, a nine-piece juggernaut of gypsy rebel soul, has become an international force to be reckoned with.

Pantha du Prince - Black Noise

Pantha Du Prince fuses house, techno, shoegazy electronica and psychedelic electro-acoustic soundscapes into music that is at once both beautiful and bewitching. He has released several recordings to date through the respected German label Dial Records, which is run by and for its artists. His previous album This Bliss, was a bittersweet take on techno, which appealed to both dancefloors and living rooms alike and was hugely successful. As a result he has become an in-demand remixer and has done tracks for Depeche Mode, Animal Collective, Bloc Party, and many others.

CRYSTAL CASTLES

Crystal Castles was never exactly a groundbreaking force in the whole 8-bit, chiptune, whatever-you-want-to-call-it genre they emerged from. What made vocalist Alice Glass‘ and multi-instrumentalist Ethan Kath’s take on it so exciting was the energy, the pop sensibilities, and attitude they brought to the proverbial table. It wasn’t wholly original, but they had some interesting ideas, and… well, it didn’t hurt that Glass is so easy on the eyes, either. On their sophomore effort II, which is a self titled one like their first (they’re too cool to title their albums, you know), they downplay the glitchy bleeps a bit to flesh out their sound a bit more, and it pays off wonderfully.

High Places - Vs. Mankind

High Places’ debut album of 2008, an eponymous collection that rightly attracted its share of plaudits, was capped by a song of such exquisite elegance that it’s effectively obscured its makers’ other efforts ever since. That track, From Stardust to Sentience, has proved a blessing and a curse: its ethereal splendour continues to captivate, but it’s far from the sole feather in this duo’s multi-coloured cap.
High Places vs. Mankind, album two excluding a compilation affair, sets out to shatter any notion that this Los Angeles via Brooklyn is a one-trick pony: the more beat-based numbers on their debut tended to be overlooked; but here, from the very outset, these pulses and thuds, rattles and taps take centre stage.

Headman - 1923

Headman returns with a brand new astonishing album: 1923. After releasing three albums on Gomma, he returns with this new record on his own label Relish. This marks the start of a new era for Robi Insinna, the man behind the Headman guise. It’s an incredible work of art: ten tracks of pure gold that show and highlight the rich talent at work here. The forward-thinking, evolving sound of a true artist. It bridges the different sonic worlds Robi has created for himself over the years. Everything from techno to post-punk, disco and pop are in some way evident in these ten recordings, which holds together as a body of work unlike anything he has done before.

First collaboration for the new-born radioSpin: Spineless Laugh takes a bunch of LastGrooves Tracks of the Week (TOTW) and mixes them together into a long, uniform clubbing tune. As usual, it’s Sick Mix selection and that’s means deep-house. And it’s Spineless Laugh mashing, that means hard-mixing.
enjoy and give some feedback.

Caribou - Swim

With its absorption of club culture sounds weaved within subtle pop frameworks, Swim is Caribou‘s masterpiece the record he’s wanted to bring to fruition for as long as he’s been making music. A Canadian from small-town Ontario now based in England, Daniel Victor Snaith (previously known as Manitoba) has been a leading figure in electronic music over the past decade. He surprised critics and fans with 2007′s Andorra, a brilliant, electro-tinged pop breakthrough with a timeless grace that made most year-end Best of lists and won Canada’s prestigious Polaris Music Prize.

65daysofstatic - We Were Exploding Anyway

2010 album from the ever evolving post-rock pioneers 65daysofstatic who take a new direction once again on this, their fourth album: having pushed instrumental guitar music through textural and tempo barriers for three albums before this one, 65daysofstatic have now reeled in the complexity and instead emphasised volume and dynamics. We Were Exploding Anyway seems to dispense with the subtlety and glitch-laden rock of yore, replacing it with the kind of cavern-defying hooks that The Prodigy, or even drum’n’bass goons Pendulum, could hinge their entire careers on. Known for their stunning live shows and having toured with The Cure all over the world, this is sure to be a record destined for your collection.

LCD Soundsystem - This Is Happening

Not since Kid Creole and the Coconuts got both yuppies and no-wavers moving in the 1980s has an electro/synth/dance/punk outfit achieved the crossover success of LCD Soundsystem. In addition to the bona fide hits on Sound of Silver (North American Scum and All My Friends among them), James Murphy and crew have released exclusive product for Nike and scored the soundtrack for a Ben Stiller movie (Noah Baumbach’s Greenberg). With This Is Happening, the group released its third official full-length hinting at more of the same, however, with a musical palate as broad and refined as Murphy’s, such a notion is ultimately meaningless.

Fourth album for the salerno-based indie-rock outfit A Toys Orchestra. Three years after the wonderful Technicolor Dreams the band releases another great album, steering directly towards a more energic and passionate sound.
